PCM® 1: Core Concepts is a 2-day immersive training that teaches the foundational framework of the Process Communication Model. Designed for professionals who want to deeply understand PCM® and begin the path to certification, this course covers everything from personality type assessment to distress intervention strategies. Whether you plan to become a certified PCM® trainer or simply want mastery-level understanding of the model, this is where the journey begins. Delivered in person in Wichita, Kansas.
PCM® 1 is a rigorous, 2-day training scheduled Thursday through Saturday that builds your understanding of the Process Communication Model from the ground up.
By the end of the course, you will have working fluency in every core PCM® concept and the practical skills to apply them immediately. The behavioral objectives include assessing personality type through perceptions, understanding personality structure and how all six types interact within a single person, connecting personality to leadership styles and environmental preferences, communicating through the five PCM® channels, applying motivational strategies tailored to each type, and using assessment and intervention to avert predictable failure patterns.
This is the same framework originally developed by Dr. Taibi Kahler and used by NASA to screen and train astronauts. The rigor of the model is what makes it effective in professional contexts where other personality frameworks fall short.

Discover the eight psychological needs that drive human behavior and learn how to meet each type's needs in any context.
Understand the predictable three-degree distress sequence for each type and recognize the early warning signals before communication breaks down.
Practice identifying personality types in real time and applying intervention strategies to restore productive communication.
Completing all six modules prepares you for PCM® 2: Advanced Topics, the second step on the path to trainer certification.
PCM® 1 is designed for two audiences. The first is professionals who want to become certified PCM® trainers. This course is the required first step in the Kahler Communications certification pathway. After completing PCM® 1 and PCM® 2, you will be eligible to register for the certification training.
The second is practitioners who want mastery-level understanding of the model without pursuing certification. Therapists, coaches, HR leaders, educators, and organizational consultants who already use PCM® often attend PCM® 1 to deepen their knowledge and refine their application of the framework.
There are no prerequisites beyond a genuine interest in communication and personality. You do not need to have attended any previous Affinity Consultants workshop, though many participants have.
